  • 1 Water tub ( or wide flat-bottom vessel)
  • Water
  • Stones
  • Dry leaves
  • Seeds
  • Paper boats
  • Feathers
  • Paper
  • Pebbles
  • Beads
  • Sticks
  • Pine cones
  • Corks

Steps

  1. Fill the tub with water.
  2. Discuss how water is used and how it is important in our lives; drinking and food preparation, irrigation, washing, transportation and recreation. Ask your child if they can think of additional uses for water.
  3. Provide your child with items from the list above. Have them place on water's surface.
  4. Discuss which float and which sink. Do they sink quickly or slowly and why?
Adaptations
Ice cubes create an interesting experiment and opportunity for discussion.
Create and decorate paper boats for experiments with moving water.
