Supplies

  • Plastic food containers (coffee cans or any other containers)
  • Bean bags
  • Balls (small enough to fit into the container)

Steps

  1. Mark a circle on the ground and place the containers inside.
  2. Have the child stand an appropriate distance from circle (close enough to provide both challenge and success).
  3. Demonstrate an underhand toss.
  4. Provide balls or bean bags and opportunity for child to aim, toss and get their items into the containers.
  5. Encourage efforts and success.
  6. Discuss challenges and problem solve new approaches.
Adaptations
Have the child start the game by standing close to the can. Then gradually have the child move away from the can.
Practice collaboration skills and play this game in small groups.
