Wash Your Hands (Hepatitis song)

Seattlemum Submitted by: Seattlemum

The "hepatitis song" reminding people to wash their hands, thus stopping spread of disease. The ditty stuck in my head for 25 years, so sang it to my daughter when she was little. She pronounced it "happy-titis."

Chorus:
Wash your hands after going to the bathroom.
Wash your hands after changing baby too.
'Cause we don't want you to spread hepatitis.
And we don’t want hepatitis to get you.
Who?
You!

Optional verse:
Hepatitis has some symptoms you should learn to recognize.
Like fever, feeling very tired or loss of appetite.
Your tummy hurts,
you feel real sick,
you will not eat a bite.
Your eyes sometimes get yellow,
when they only should be white.

Origin
Public Service Announcement (PSA) aired in Oregon and Arizona in the 1970s and 1980s. It was created by the public health department in response to a higher than normal rate of hepatitis in the area.
