Create a simple sailboat using basic geometric shapes.

50 minutes
36 - 60 months
Group size
1 - 8 tots

  • 1 piece Brown construction paper (1 per child)
  • 1 piece Red construction paper (1 per child)
  • 1 piece Blue construction paper (1 per child)
  • 1 pack Markers (Assorted Colors)
  • 1 pair Safety scissors
  • 1 pair Adult scissors
  • 1 Glue stick

  1. Cut a semi-circle from brown construction paper.
  2. Cut a large triangle from red construction paper.
  3. Glue semi-circle onto blue construction paper with flat edge on top.
  4. Glue red triangle about 2 inches above semi-circle.
  5. Set aside to dry at least 10 minutes.
  6. Once dry, draw a line to connect red triangle to brown semi-circle.
  7. Draw waves on blue paper if desired.
  8. Allow to dry at least 10 minutes.
For younger kids, draw shapes for them to follow when cutting.
For older kids, encourage them to think of ways to incorporate other basic shapes into sailboat (i.e. adding a heart or star onto triangle sail).
